The other day, Shorty and I went on a quest to find her a soda-pop for a friends drink-themed White Elephant game. First, we went to Safeway. We thought perhaps they would have lavender or lemongrass soda, but they did not. We then proceeded to Top Foods. We wandered the store, looking for the drink section. We found a natural drink section, but they mostly had natural-looking weird healthy-type drinks made of acai and other interesting fruit and veggies. Shorty wandered off to find something else, and I inspected both the orange juice/milk section, and the soda-pop aisle. In the section with the cases of soda, and the big two-liter bottles, I encountered an old lady who was talking loudly to herself. I decided that if Shorty really wanted to look down this aisle, she could come with me. At the end of the aisle, I found Shorty, and she helped the store lady who was serving samples unplug her coffee machine. Then we went and stared longingly at the energy drinks... At this point, I was getting somewhat bored, but Shorty, talking about how she wanted to find a bottle of Leninade, led the way through the produce section, looking for a refrigerated drink case. Our conversation went somewhat like this:
Shorty: Okay, its here somewhere.
Me: I dunno, honestly, I haven't seen anything like that, perhaps they don't have it?
Shorty: Let's find the refrigerated section, you know, the single bottles? ALL stores have one.
Me: What? You mean the orange juice area? I checked there…
Shorty: Nononono, the single refrigerated bottles!
Me: All we've seen like that was the natural section…
Shorty: No, like, a big case.
Me: Ohhh… You mean, like that thing by the deli? *points*
Shorty: YES. *sigh* Shrimpyyyy! >.<
We ran/hopped/skipped/danced over to the case, and began inspecting bottles. Some of the drinks were really weird. One of the orange colored drinks had a big purple eye on it, and said "I look like I'm orange, but I taste like I'm grape!" Oooh, I know how they did that one ;) Lots of food coloring *gasp* :P There were frosty-the-snowman drinks, orange soda, many varieties of root beer, the purple eye drink, and a drink entitled "Kickapoo Joy Juice: The original dogpatch recipe". Don't ask me what it means, because I don't know. It was just a simple citrus soda, but the name was amusing, and Shorty finally settled on it for her gift. When we were checking out, the cashier was being friendly, and talking to us about the holidays.
Cashier: So, how's your holiday going?
Shorty: Good, thanks. This drink is actually my White Elephant gift for a Christmas party I'm attending.
Cashier: Oh, really? Does it have a funny holiday saying on it or something? *reaches for bottle and reads label* Kickapoo Joy Juice? Oh. *somewhat nervous/uncomfortable/confused laugh* That's, um, interesting. Well, uh, have a nice day!
Me: *giggle*
Shrimpy out.
